Updated: 4/28/2022 In his book Can Your Child Sing?, Opera singer Lauritz Melchior mentioned Jerry Scott: "[Scott] was very much in demand at the night spots. Those who handled him did not sense the danger of overwork until it was too late. Too much singing at the critical time had overtaxed his vocal cords and his voice was injured." He was alson in a movie called "Thrill of a Romance" (1945) with Van Johnson and Esther Williams. He played a Bellman named Lyonel and during a scene where the Tommy Dorsey Band (The real one) was playing he was singing from the balcony. It prompted me to look this up and it is so sad to see that he was ruined by the wrong handlers.

Of all the female singers who sang the song, "Our day will come", Julie sang it far better than them all. When you hear Julie sing this song, you will agree too, she made that song, "Our day will come" absolutely her own.

This is from the 1956 film “The Best Things in Life Are Free”. It’s a musical about the lives of the 3 song writers who wrote many hit in songs in the 20’s and 30”s- Desilva, Brown and Henderson. My grandfather was Ray Henderson and he was the composer, Desilva and Brown wrote the lyrics. All the songs in the film were written by a combination of the 3. My grandfather was plaid by Dan Dailey in the film. Most of the songs became what is referred to as American Standards - classics . The list of famous singers who recorded their songs goes on and on for generations. At one time in the 20s they had 5 broadway shows going on at the same time -

This is an excellent, underrated film many people are unfamiliar with. Sidney Lumet did a brilliant job with an all-star cast. A must-watch if you haven’t seen this movie. 🎥
